Temisgang Nunnery

The Dutch Chomo Foundation helped to build the Temisgang nunnery from 1996 to 1999. The nunnery houses 43 nuns and includes accommodation, a prayer hall, kitchen, and classroom.

Student Hostel, Choglamsar

The LNA student hostel at Choglamsar has a loving environment for 40 young nuns studying Buddhist studies and general education. However, it is a temporary solution and LNA seeks funding for a larger and a permanent home for the students.

Nyerma

One initiative that began as an idea has lead to rewarding relationships, which solidified in 2003 when LNA introduced Marlies Bosch of the Netherlands to a group of nuns in Thiksey. These older nuns, still serving in their family homes, had formed their own community of practice without the support of family, villagers . In recognition of their effort and devotion, and to provide them a place to live out their lives as spiritual nuns, LNA had long wanted to establish a nunnery for them.

To help realize the vision, the Dutch Foundation for Ladakhi Nuns was formed and soon after, on an ancient holy site donated by the monastery, construction began. Members of DFLN come yearly to help with constructions, to offer trainings and workshops to the nuns, and to support the work of LNA. In 2005, ten nuns moved into five completed rooms; the project was completed in 2008. The nuns feel fortunate to have a place for their spiritual practice at such a special location. DFLN also built a guest house to ensure long-term sustainability of the nunnery. It opened in 2008, and is operating successfully, with some continuing support from DFLN.
